NORTHLINE FIELDNOTES / FICTIONAL BY INTENTION

The shared courtyard

A patch of green does not need to be large to change the rhythm of a place.

Imagine a courtyard between three ordinary buildings. There are a few chairs, a low table and enough room for a climbing plant. The first change is not dramatic: someone stays for a moment instead of walking straight through.

Room to pause.

Over time, the courtyard becomes a place for short conversations. A neighbour brings a book. Someone shares a cup of tea. The garden is small, but the invitation is clear.

A good shared space begins by making room.
